On Saturday, September 24th, 2016 several members of 1000ecofarms.com team had a pleasure of participating in a farm tour and dinner at Forested Farm - a 10-acre research forest garden just outside of Washington, DC. We will publish more information about the work done at the farm soon, but for now please enjoy some photos from the event!
One of the first products that people think about when it comes to forest gardens - mushrooms. This is how
Forested grows mushrooms that they sell as part of their CSA.
Passion flower, native to Mid-Atlantic, is grown at the farm. It produces not just beautiful (and edible) flowers, but also tasty fruits.
Ground cherry plant or physalis - indigenous to the Americas and similar to small tomatoes.
Forested Farm co-founder Lincoln Smith - an avid forest gardener who sees people as part of the forest.
Chef Michael Costa of Zaytinya Restaurant loves to experiment with bountiful products grown at the Forested Farm. Below are some of his creations, cooked with the ingredients grown at the farm.

None of this would be possible without the help of volunteers. Thanks to them and the event organizers for the opportunity to learn about forest farming and to sample tasty dishes cooked from the bounty of the forest!
